AVS Ohio Summer Symposium 2024
AVS Ohio held its annual Summer Symposium at The Ohio State University on July 30th 2024. Researchers from across the state gathered in the Physics Research Building to share their exciting research on topics ranging from materials science to nuclear structure. We thank our invited speakers Fengyuan Yang from The Ohio State University, Ashley Paz y Puente from the University of Cincinnati, and Andrea Richard from Ohio University for inspiring us with their fantastic research.
This year marks the inaugural Early Career Scholar Award, given to exceptional early career Ohioans who are committed to broad STEM impact in Ohio. This year, Dr. Seth Shields won our Early Career Award. Congratulations!! Seth has demonstrated commitment to the Ohio STEM community through Ohio’s world-class National Science Foundation (NSF) "NeXUS” user facility.
We had three outstanding poster presentation awards: Ananya Patnaik, PhD at the doctoral level, Nate Price at the master's level, and Mark Gordon at the undergraduate level. Thank you all for your outstanding work! Furthermore, a big thank you to our poster judges, Prescott Evans, Kelsey Collins, and Brenton Noesges.

2023 AVS Ohio Symposium
On August 1, 2023, the 2023 AVS Ohio Symposium was held at the University of Dayton. The event included 30 attendees from industry, academia & government from across the state of Ohio. The invited talks represented the broad interests of the AVS community from biosensors to epitaxial materials. A contributed poster session allowed students & professionals to present their work. The following students were honored for their excellent poster presentations: PhD: Sneha Upadhyay , Ohio University, Master's: Carter Wade , Miami University, Undergrad: Riley Barrett , University of Dayton. AVS Ohio Welcome Reception at AVS 68
The AVS Ohio Chapter welcomed chapter members to the 68th AVS Symposium in Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022. All attendees enjoyed delicious food & beverages while networking with their fellow Ohioans.

A special undergraduate session was held at the 68th AVS Symposium was held in Pittsburg, Pa during the week of November 6, 2022. Undergraduate researchers contributed 25 posters & 5 oral presentations and were recognized in the AVS program and at their posters. All posters contained high quality work and received high accolades from the conference attendees. Our very own, Margaret Brown from the University of Dayton (pictured), was recognized for outstanding poster, as well as 4 other students. The undergraduate student participation at AVS-68 was organized by Erin Iski, Ashleigh Baber, Liney Arnadottir, and Dan Killelea in collaboration with the AVS Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Undergraduate students are invited to submit abstracts for AVS 69 held in Portland, OR, November 5th through November 10th, 2023.
